An Open Letter To The LGBTQ Community From A ‘Normal’ Girl

Dear LGBTQ Community,

How are you? I’m sure you must be super happy and proud today. You should be, after all it is your day. I was on my way to work when I read about Section 377 being completely abolished. I was genuinely happy, proud and finally felt like a citizen of a liberal country.

But I have certain questions for you, for the entire LGBTQ community. You can call it questions or grievances or dissatisfaction or whatever Thesaurus recommends you. Would you like to read them and answer me?

I know, in this pretentious world it is extremely difficult to be what you want to be. But the eradication of one stupid law made you feel free and gave you a sense of liberalism. Why?

Why did it take some mere words, which are given a legal form, to define you? Why did it take a decision to make you feel safe in our country? Why were you particularly waiting for this decision to tag you as a ‘NORMAL’ human being? How did one decision, which did not define your identity, made you feel like you’ve won some battle?

All these questions, objections or remonstrations are coming from a girl who, according to our society, is absolutely ‘NORMAL’ . I’m straight because that’s my choice. Similarly, you are you because of your own preferences. What made you wait for a random person to come along and say ‘Sorry to make you suffer, you’re free now!’?

My entire point is, you never needed a law to be free or a law to eradicate a law that bounded you. All you needed is acceptance. Acceptance from yourself, from within you. You’re no different. You are not a rare case. You loved barbies more than cars, girls more than boys, vagina more dicks or dicks more than vaginas or both, you were born this way, embrace yourself.

Remember Kukoo from Sacred Games? Why did Ganesh Gaitonde fell in love with her? Because she was in love with herself. She did not give two fucks about anybody.

And what society are we talking about? That society who doesn’t give a damn about you or your existence? About those people who will recommend you to visit a psychiatrist because you’re a gay, lesbian, bisexual or a transgender? Seriously? For this society, you’re running away from yourself? For these shitty people who can never mind their own business, you ruined your lives? Your battle was never with the society’, it was with yourself to accept the reality.

I know it sounds easy in theory and not in practical life, but darling, you never needed an approval to be a part of this world. You make the world beautiful. You add colours to it, literally! Fuck the society, fuck these narrow minded, stereotypical minds, fuck every single thing that stops you from being you. You never needed independence from the society, all you needed was 20 seconds of courage to shout out loud saying ‘I’M NOT STRAIGHT, AND NEITHER ARE YOUR MINDS. FUCK YOU ALL, I’LL FUCK WHOMEVER I WISH TO!’
