America’s passion for guns and the havoc it has contributed towards time and again is hidden from no one. However, gun possession has not just been the case with the population of the USA. Worldwide, many popular celebrities and influential people prefer to keep a licensed gun with them citing various reasons of safety and love for leisure shooting.
We already know about the high-level safety that these personalities (and of course, the common people) deserve in the times of mass killings, grand thefts, and security breaches. So, it just makes sense to be a little concerned, especially when a million eyes are on you.
Very recently, one such celebrity openly shared the need she feels to possess a gun. This gave us the idea to find who all are the other famous names that have at any point in time in their lives kept a gun with them. Check ’em out!
1. Sakshi Dhoni
Former Indian Cricket Team captain MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni recently created a stir in the media when she applied for a gun license. She applied either for a .32 Revolver or a Pistol and cited a logical reason that she mostly stays alone at home and has to go out for private work. So, to keep away from any danger, she believes that she needs a gun.
2. Poonam Dhillon
A former Femina Miss India and someone who has been a national crush during her times, actress Poonam Dhillon too owns a gun.
“I do have a gun and have kept it for safety reasons at home. I do not carry it with me,” Poonam told TOI. However, she also emphasised the fact that it’s troubling to carry one because you might or might not get an entry in malls and areas where security is tight. Plus, you always have to be concerned about its potential misuse.
3. Soha Ali Khan
Reportedly, when Soha received her 1996 license to own a Rifle from Gurgaon, now Gurugram, she was a minor and this led to a controversy back then. Further, Soha’s license was cancelled. Today, she does not own a gun and believes that when it comes to self-defense for a woman, it might not make sense to carry a gun because it’ll consume a lot of time to react. She is a modern age woman and she knows that the biggest win is not in carrying guns but in changing the mindsets.
4. Amitabh Bachchan
No Indian can forget the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack that took place in 2008, almost a decade ago. It shook the whole nation and celebrities were no proof from the effect. Big B was one such celeb who was deeply struck.
“Before retiring for the night, I pulled out my licensed .32 revolver, loaded it and put it under my pillow,”Bachchan, then 66, wrote in his blog a few days after the incident.
5. Sunny Deol
“Ye dhaai kilo ka haath aur usme rakhi revolver se agar nishaana lag jaae, toh aadmi uthta nahi, udd jaata hai.” These are definitely not Sunny Paaji’s actual words, but we guess he means something like this when he owns a revolver that he allegedly used for his film, Singh Saab the Great‘s shooting.
6. Mahendra Singh Dhoni
According to a news published in Deccan Chronicle, MSD had applied for a 9 mm gun in the year 2008 and faced rejection. Later, he received the license in 2010 and today; he can be tagged as a better than average in shooting as he showed his skills at Police Training School in Kolkata.
