Broke college students, we understand you.
College days are the most precious in any student’s life. We love, laugh, fight and make memories that will live in our hearts forever. However these are also the days when spending cash becomes a risk because….College needs. Whether you are a college student that lives in a hostel or just a regular undergrad that is struggling with studies, it doesn’t really matter because we have all been there and done that. So today we are recalling things that all broke college students will relate to. Let’s roll!
1) Bargaining with literally everyone and everything.
When you are broke, you literally bargain with anyone and anything to save every penny of your meager stash of cash. Whether its bargaining with friends to buy you something for which you will compensate later or just bargaining with your parents to get that extra penny. We have all been there and done that. You never know, inculcating these skills can actually make us good bargainers in the future so let’s be positive ya’ll!
2) Becoming resourceful.
As someone who has lived in a hostel, I can definitely say that college will make you resourceful when it comes to money management and utilizing existing resources. Now this may have sounded like a complicated theory but in reality it isn’t because we all have used our things for more than one purpose like using your big books like a table or your hair straightener as an iron (not even kidding it works well!)
3) Craving things from afar and knowing that you can’t afford them as of now.
Do you know that feeling of passing by your crush and looking at them longingly knowing that they can never be yours? That’s exactly how you will feel when you are short on cash and a beautiful pair of shoes or a deliciously gorgeous burger will tempt you from afar. If you think breakup hurts then you haven’t experienced this excruciating pain!
4) Becoming a human calculator.
Admit it, when you are broke, you have all your book keeping details with depreciation and taxes on top of your mind with all the figures precisely calculated to analyse profit and loss. You also have next month’s budget planned (or maybe not).
5) Saving every single penny that you can find for future purposes.
Can you relate to the ecstasy and the pure joy you feel when you find a forgotten note of 100 rupees (or any other currencies you use respectively!) under the cupboard or buried deep in the dungeon of your college bag? Well I can.
6) Cancelling plans because you just can’t go.
Remember that Goa plan you had made with your friends loooong ago and its time to put than plan in action but you can’t because you are broke? That’s called a sad life. This reality is what will pierce your heart with a pencil and leave it to bleed in all its pain.
7) You mind is always in a battle between temptation and reality.
It’s like you have an angel and a devil constantly blabbering in your ears to buy that ONE necessary thing which isn’t even necessary to you!
8) You literally beg and share stuff with your friends until you get back on track.
Your friends in these conditions are the only financial support system you will have because they are he angels that will share their stuff with you (or maybe not, but you eventually beg them to). Its also a give and take kind of a contract between you.
9) Fun in these situation means cheap jugaad (fun at low yet resourceful cost)
As a broke student, you don’t even have the funds to survive let alone party, so what can be done in that case? Simple, you call your squad to your/their place and party with whatever resources you have available at home. Its more like a home-made club eh? (Sorry i’ll shut up now)
10) You are weirdly motivated to do well in life.
After all the struggles of not having money and surviving on your own in this deeply dangerous and cruel world, you come to a self realization on the importance of cash and that weirdly motivates you to study well and do good in life right? (even if its for like…5 seconds?) But we have been there and done that!
