Dutch chef Diego Buik, one helluva cook of restaurant South of Houston in The Hague is a true hamburger connoisseur. He’s got a hamburger tattooed on his arm and his colleagues say there’s ketchup running through his veins instead of blood. He created the Netherlands’ and (world’s) most expensive hamburger and got his burger into the Guinness Book of World Records. The burger consists of Japanese dry-aged Wagyu beef, Oosterschelde lobster (infused with Dutch Hermit gin), foie gras, white truf e, Remeker cheese, Japanese fruit tomatoes and caviar on a brioche bun made with saffron and covered in gold leaf. These ingredients make it the most expensive hamburger of the world with a retail price of €2050. (around 2300 dollars)
Diego says, “My passion for the hamburger started when I worked as a sous-chef for Soho House in London for two years. When I returned to the Netherland I wanted to give the hamburger a boost and started designing my own.” After some years he won Best Burger of Rotterdam in 2015. Buik never stopped developing and evolving. “That’s why I just couldn’t let International Hamburger Day pass by without doing any spectacular.”
