This actor has won our hearts with his chocolate-boy looks and dimpled smile since the first time he stepped into the film industry. But he made a strong impression among the audience and a good career in Bollywood when he took up challenging, serious and dark roles. And we also got to see a new and rare side of his in recent years – as a caring husband and a protective father. Yes, we are talking about none other than the most dashing and charming gentleman – Shahid Kapoor.
So here we are with 5 of Shahid Kapoor’s most interesting movies that changed his career in B-Town:
1. Haider (2014)
Directed and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj, Shahid Kapoor did all the justice to the role of Haider as the protagonist of the movie. And his makeover and look for the movie took us completely in surprise – the bald look and the intense expressions and emotions. He worked alongside Tabu and was shown in a romantic affair with Shraddha Kapoor in this movie. It was an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s renowned ‘Hamlet’ and made it as the first Indian film to win People’s Choice Award.
2. Udta Punjab (2016)
Udta Punjab can be called as most controversial film only and only because of the trouble it went through with the CBFC. This guy deserves a hats off for all the effort he took to enact the role of Tejinder ‘Tommy’ Singh – a rock star who becomes a drug addict. He literally gave us chills while watching the movie. It grossed estimated 100 crores worldwide.
3. Rangoon (2017)
A Sajid Nadiwala production, this movie just proves that Shahid has started giving scripts the utmost important and is opting for more and more challenging roles. A movie based on the historical eras where we fought for our country’s freedom, it stars Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut alongside Shahid as the lead roles.
4. Kaminey (2009)
Kaminey was critically acclaimed by many critics as the ‘Best film of the year’. It is set in the backdrop of the underworld of Mumbai and was a witness that Shahid can personate a negative role just as well as he does all his romantic roles. Shahid played a double role in the movie as twins, Charlie and Guddu. A surprising fact – the film was made on a budget of approximately 350 crores but grossed the double of it.
5. Jab We Met (2007)
Directed and written by Imtiaz Ali, this movie can be said, without any doubt, as the turning point of Shahid’s career in acting and Bollywood. The story line is considered among the best movie plots in Bollywood. No could do the role of Aditya Kashyap better than Shahid Kapoor – it seemed as if he was made for it. And haven’t we drooled a number of times while watching him play the handsome rich gentleman – who wouldn’t fall for him.
6. Ishq Vishk (2003)
Ishq Vishk deserves a mention in the list as it marked Shahid’s debut in the film industry for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Though the film was not promoted to great extent, it gradually became successful.
Shahid Kapoor can play any role – be it negative or positive – with equal dedication and precision and he is proved it constantly through his struggles in becoming on of the successful celebrities. We are eagerly waiting to know more details about his role in Padmavati – an upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali direction.
