More than a billion people love cake, this is not even an understatement because lets admit it, we can never say no to cakes. So today we (for no apparent reason) are listing down top facts you never knew about this much loved dessert (including some delicious photos to torture you guys). Ready? lets roll!
1)In the Middle Ages, the word cake meant a flat round of bread baked hard on both sides.
2)The world’s biggest cake is a wedding cake which weights a whooping 6.818 tonnes and was made by chefs at the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, USA.
3)Cakes were originally round in shape in the early days to depict the sun and the moon which are symbols of life in nature. Though we have a variety of shapes available today.
4)It was difficult to make cakes initially but it became easier to make ever since the invention of baking soda and baking powder. The invention of ovens also helped too as people didn’t have to bother and put labor effort into making cakes.
5)The earliest mention of a cup cake was in 1796 in American Cookery by Amelia Simmons.
6)In olden days it was believed that if you put fruit cake under your pillow would make you dream about the person you will marry. It was a superstition though.
7)The term placenta (yes its our anatomy) is Latin word for cake and it was named after its round and flat shape.
8)It doesn’t matter how many ‘healthy’ cakes you eat, cakes should not be a frequent food of consumption as it is absolutely not good for your health. However occasional consumption of cake does provide much needed fats and energy for our body.
