12 Movies That Will Make Your Boring Weekend Afternoon A Wee Bit Interesting

If you are sitting alone all glum and sad because you don’t have any plans for the weekend like us – and the ones you meticulously dreamed about ended up getting broke like you, then don’t stress ’cause we are here at your rescue. Here are some movies that will help you pass your time and make you forget all the FoMo vibes – fear of missing, you know – as you snuggle deep into your bed with your laptop on your lap and your dog by your side.

Here are some interesting but funny movies which will cheer you up and make your afternoon a wee bit interesting.

1. Charlie’s Angels (2000)

The three beautiful, talented and tough women a.k.a angels – Natalie, Dylan, and Alex – are private investigators for a man, Charlie, who they have never met and you bet, they are kick-ass at their work. These angels will soar your energy up the roof and will help you make you feel much better.

2. Monte Carlo (2011)

We have all ‘planned’ en-number of road-trips with our friends that we would embark on together after graduating (note the word ‘planned’ and not went) and we bet, you all have done this at one point. Well, Grace Bennett and her best friend, Emma literally earn for a trip to Paris after graduating. But there is something or other to go wrong. What happens when Grace is mistaken as the Heiress Cordelia  and they all somehow land up in Monte Carlo and get to live a life of royalty? Watch and find out. We all have been at crossroads or at a point where we had to take what seemed the most difficult decision, or sometimes we all have felt that something is missing in our life. At such times, we all need a long break from our life. And so was the same for Liz Gilbert (Julia Robert) who had just gone through a disastrous divorce. On a sabbatical leave, she decides to connect with her inner self by traveling and marveling the wonders of some of the exotic places – Italy, India and Bali. Eat Pray Love because she gets to eat the heartiest meals at Italy, she gets to know about the power of prayer in India and finally, finds in love and inner peace in the beautiful location of Bali.

We all could welcome a good romantic comedy movie on our list which shares our love for shopping and all the woes that come with it – especially getting broke. Rebecca Bloomwood is one such girl among many of us who usually finds herself in tight situations just because of her one bad habit – no, not gambling – but being a shopping addict. Travel her journey as a shopaholic who life gets pretty messy after she finds herself in debts.

5. Moonlight

Moonlight is an Oscar winning movie – what more reason do we need to give to add this movie to your movies list. On top of that, it is the first all-black and LGBT movie to win an academy award as the best picture. It is about the three most important phases of life which define you for the rest of the life – young adolescence, mid-teen, and young adulthood – about kindness and love of your community. Everyone should watch this heart-winning movie.

6. Ghostbusters (2016)

We hope we don’t need to introduce this movie. It will tickle your tummy and leave you in fits with its satirical take on the belief that ghosts do exist. A comedy on a supernatural? Yes, A comedy on supernatural! Don’t doubt its ability to make you laugh till you drop just on the name. No judgments until you watch till the end. If nothing you can keep watching Chris Hemsworth with those dreamy eyes

7. A Dog’s Purpose (2017)

We all have thought what is our purpose in life, but have you ever thought about what goes in your dog’s mind? Does he/she ever have doubts that why he is with an idiot like you (conditioned you have a dog unlike us). Kidding. Not. But if you are a dog lover we needn’t even give you a reason to add this to your list – c’mon  we would give anything to watch a cute dog who takes re-births to find the purpose of his existence. This movie will take you on a roller coaster of emotions – from one of adoration to one of awwwe to one of teary eyed to one of happiness and satisfaction.

8. Enchanted (2007)

Enchanted tells all that is wrong with our fairy-tales. Tangled, Cinderella, Snow White, Red Ridding Hood and such fairy-tales are all brought together in this comedy, drama and romance packed Rom-Com. But you ask me what is different about this movie than from the other fairy-tales and romantic movies? First and foremost, here the princess is not the one who needs to be rescued but is the one who rescues the common man. No this is not about a prince and his princess who live happily ever after but about a common man’s story who finds love in the most unexpected way. You are sure to fall on the floor laughing when you see how stupid they have shown the prince to be – as they are and how these fairy-tales won’t survive in our real world for even a minute. This movie has a whole new take on the classics with its funny and satirical portrayal of various fairy-tales.

9. Ice Princess (2005)

All children have been on these fork roads once they are done with their 10th – one path that they want to pursue and the one that our parents have dreamt for us ever since we were born. Some times the parents and kids are on the same paths while some are happy with what their kids want to do. But sometimes there are differences which leave the kids confused and helpless. Casey Carlyle is one such kid who was focused on pursuing science after high school until she realizes her future and heart lies in figure-skating. Travel the struggle of every student in this beautiful movie as Casey faces coflicts between pursuing her dreams and making her mom’s dream come true.

10. The Dictator (2012)

A British-American satirical take on politics and loosely based on the eccentricities of real life Dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Dictator is a black comedy starring Sacha Boren Cohen as the lead who plays the role an Admiral General Aladeen. General Aladeen is the dictator of the Republic of Wadiya – a fictional country – who is on a visit to New York to address the council of the UN headquarters but ends up getting kidnapped. Though he gets a chance to run away when he merely escapes death and ends up roaming around in the streets of New York and apparently landing up in a place called Little Wadiya which is a host to refugees from Wadiya who were apparently were executed on the orders of this dictator. Luckily he is not recognizable as his long beard was shaven off by the kidnapper. Hmmm… Laugh along as Aladeen tries to not get his head cut off by these people and gain back his rightful position as “the dictator”. We have already made our mind to watch this right now, have you?

11. 21 Jump Street (2012)

21 Jump Street stars Channing Tatum!!! An action comedy about two police officers who go undercover as high school students and forcefully relive their high school days. They apparently are assigned to stop the spread of a synthetic drug at a high school called HFS (Holy F**king Shit). Yeaah! You have to watch this movie because c’mon Channing Tatum!

12. Borat (2006)

Borat is a musical and comedy movie and a documentary – no wait, a mockumentary -yes, a mockumentary mockumented (if that is a word) by a fictional Kazakh journalist, Borat Sagdijev who travels throughout the whole of USA documenting their customs, recording real-life interactions with the citizens of America where they are being interviewed and interacted by Borat. The movie’s whole name actually is Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, but let’s just keep it sweet and simple for Borat. This movie was nominated for the Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy and Sacha Baron Cohen was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in Motion Picture. It is one of Sacha Baron Cohen’s best movies and is an absolute joy to watch, if you don’t get offended easily that is.
