Depression seems to be the root cause of suicide these days. We are constantly hearing about students killing themselves because they couldn’t handle the depression and stress. It’s not only peer pressure that causes depression but the inability to deal with emotions too can cause depression. Its like an evil disease that takes root inside your head and constantly brings you down. Today we have gathered a few signs that can help you identify if you are suffering from depression or are on the verge of suffering from it.
1) Constant tiredness physically and mentally and emotionally
Fatigue and physical tiredness are a common occurrence when you are stressed but these signs are more prominent when you are depressed. This feeling of tiredness is not only physical but also mental and emotional. You are incapable of showing your emotions and dealing with problems that you just give up.
2) A feeling of deep hopelessness
There will be feeling of worthlessness in your mind. You will constantly berate yourself for not being ‘good enough’ or never being able to improve or do something in your life, you think you will never be adequate. You will always take the blame on yourself and this deep guilt will keep increasing in your mind.
3) Loss of interest
Nothing will interest you anymore. Hobbies, career or a relationship will seem of no interest when you are under the pull of depression. This loss of interest is what seems to pull people deeper into hopelessness.
4) Anger issues and reckless behavior
It is okay to be angry, but it not okay to be always angry. Constant anger on mundane things and reckless behavior is a sign of depression. When sadness cannot be contained it takes the form of anger to make things better. Reckless behavior also follows along with this.
5) Lack of concentration
You are unable to concentrate on a lot of things whether its school or work or your life. That interest and focus is just not there.
6) Decrease in appetite
Food may seem tasteless when you are dealing with depression, as in food won’t interest you any longer. This causes eating disorders and a lack of appetite which will eventually cause health problems.
7) Insomnia or lack of healthy sleeping habits during depression
Sleeping habits are important for a healthy life, but when in depression your sleeping habits will be affected. Lack of sleep and insomnia are prominent and only add to the helplessness.
8) A sudden interest in death and suicide
Suicidal thoughts are a common occurrence in depression. You may get a sudden interest in death and suicide when dealing with it. In fact many people in depression battle these thoughts. A depressed person will talk about harming himself strongly or may even bring these thoughts up in conversations.
Depression is a huge risk which MUST NOT be overlooked. If you come across a person with odd behavior then talk to them and encourage them to open up about their problems. When dealing with a depressed you need to lend a ear and listen to their problems instead of judging them. Because judging will do nothing more than add oil to the fire.
Share this to spread the word and stop people, especially students from suiciding.
