Sumoman Game Review: A Beautiful Journey Across Ancient Japan

Ever wondered how ancient Japan might have looked like? There’s a game available on Steam Store for PC which lets you experience a beautiful journey across ancient Japan. This gem of a game is titled “Sumoman” which is developed by 2 brothers from Tequilabyte Studio.

You play as a giant Sumo who has returned home from a tournament but after he returns back he finds that almost everyone in his country is asleep and in peril. Someone unknown has enchanted the entire island which has put everyone into deep sleep and there begins the journey of our Sumoman to go through countless obstacles and puzzling levels. The game starts with a cutscene where in your character communicates with the boat man but as soon as we reach the island even the boat man falls asleep.

This is where the game starts where you are explained the controls of the game and you enter this beautiful island. Voice overs in the game are all in the Japanese language which add in another level of authenticity to the game but for the lay man who doesn’t understand Japanese they have added subtitles as well.

Basically, Sumoman is an adventure puzzle platformer with advanced physics, destructible objects and the ability to reverse time. Solve various physical puzzles, trying to keep the unstable Sumoman on his feet in challenging environments.

The environment around you looks so gorgeous that at times you will be compelled to simply stop and observe the beauty around you. As you go ahead you are faced with multiple obstacles. The really interesting feature about this game is definitely the ability to reverse time itself! YES! If you make a wrong move you can literally reverse time and get your character back on his feet. It is a bit challenging to control our Sumoman so you have to be careful while moving around.

The game also features a split screen mode with special competitive levels for 2 players to play at the same time. The challenge here is to complete the level faster than your friend or beat them in The King Of The Hill mode.
